As an American, I know what it is like to work too much, an know that in other countries that the work week and year are often much shorter. In fact, did you know that some countries have 8 weeks paid vacation and 30 hour work weeks?
It’s true that the American way is to work hard and get rich, but this somewhat inaccurate way of living often leads to fatigue and a workforce that is largely disenchanted with the American dream. We could all use a vacation, but how do we achieve this without losing our job?
The answer is to make it a point to get out and see the world, even if that means saving up your vacation days.
The unfortunate truth
Is that sometimes we need to prioritize ourselves over the company we work for. It isn’t always easy to get away from work, but let’s put it into perspective. 40 hours every week for the entire year is daunting, and detracts from our development as a human being.
Understanding this, it becomes incumbent on the employee to take time away from work, in any way necessary in order to live life to the fullest.
Unfortunately, until this country shifts its opinion on how much one individual should spend working and how much time they should spend playing, it may be trick to just decide to get away from it all for a few days. However, if you find yourself able to do this, the positive effects are well worth the effort.
