. Hellfire
Pass - Memorial Service
Every year on November 11th (Armistice Day) there
is a memorial service held at "Hellfire
Pass", one of the most notorious
sections of the Death Railway. There
is always a very impressive turnout to mark this
special day.
Each
year Bill Slape (Operations Manager at the Hellfire
Pass Memorial Museum), helps to co-ordinate
the proceedings expertly and as always everyone
is grateful for his tireless efforts.
Ex
POWs, servicemen and family members attend every year in great
numbers for this moving service as the assembled crowd listens
to moving speeches, detailed POW experiences and prayers.
Representatives
from each of the nations involved in this tragic episode of
World War II are always in attendance and wreaths from Embassies,
Consulates and private family members are laid with the assistance
of the Royal Thai Army.
As
always, along with all the distinguished guests, Kanchanaburi's
small expat community were represented at the service including
the team at Visit Kanchanaburi who took all of the
above photos and video clips.
